Man Overboard
Every sailors worst nightmare.
23:32UTC. Sunday 30th March 2014. Andrew Taylor, an amateur sailor, taking part in the 9th Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, aboard the 70' ocean racing yacht CV30 'Derry LondonDerry Doire'. Fell overboard during horrific weather conditions and was lost at sea for 1hour and 40minutes in the very middle of the icy cold North Pacific. In the midst of a violent storm, almost 2,000 miles from the nearest land. With the exception of other racing yachts taking part in the same race, all of whom were over an hour away, no other vessels were within 1,000 miles.
"Andrew has written a very honest and useful account of his circumnavigation. It should be compulsory reading for any sailor contemplating an ocean crossing. A circumnavigation is always an adventure, and a tough one at that. More than twice as many people have climbed Mount Everest as have circumnavigated our planet. But Andrew’s adventure was more than he, or any of us had bargained for."
